José Antonio García Galdón highlights the need to make progress in planning, coordination and governance to promote the waste management model

Madrid, 26 March 2026.
Valoriza has taken part in the third edition of Future4 Circularity, organised by Retema. The event brings together professionals and companies to discuss the role of the circular economy as a strategic lever for competitiveness and sustainability.
During the event, José Antonio García Galdón, General Manager of Waste Treatment at Valoriza, spoke at one of the discussion sessions focusing on the evolution of the Spanish waste management model in the context of the transition to the circular economy.
In his speech, he pointed out that Spain has operators capable of competing internationally, although it still relies heavily on landfill. In this regard, he highlighted the importance of moving towards more developed models, focusing on planning and greater coordination of the system.
He also addressed some of the sector’s main challenges, such as administrative complexity, difficulties in developing new infrastructure, and the need to improve the competitiveness of recycled materials. He also referred to the challenges associated with energy recovery and biomethane, particularly in relation to authorisation processes and the social acceptance of projects.
During the discussion, he emphasised the importance of moving towards a more strategic vision of the system, based on greater planning, coordination and governance, as key elements for consolidating the circular economy model in Spain.
