Valoriza Servicios Medioambientales has become the first company in its sector to verify its Water Footprint following the requirements of the ISO 14046 standard. The verification has been carried out by AENOR, ratifying the information, data and results found in the company's evaluation report.

This verification, corresponding to the year 2023, analyzes up to 18 impact categories, following the four most recognized international methodologies. It takes a holistic approach, considering all impacts on ecosystems, human health and water-related resources.

The scope of the study covers Valoriza's direct and indirect footprint, including the group's activity differentiated into two business areas: urban services and waste treatment. The study also includes the activity of the offices and headquarters.

Thanks to this study, the company's sustainability managers have found different opportunities to continue reducing the company's water footprint by acting in the different business areas.

The water footprint is one of the main environmental indicators, considering the volume of fresh water used throughout the production chain of a consumer good or service. Javier San Millán, CEO of Valoriza, explains that “with this verification we show our commitment as one of the main actors not only in caring for the environment, but also in raising awareness of the whole society on this issue”. “Water is an essential good for sustainable development that is also scarce, so its responsible use must become a priority for everyone,” he adds.
